Volunteers-needed
Room Parent Meeting - September 19th

Please let the PTO if you would be interested in volunteering as a room parent.
The room parents for each class help coordinate class parties, and may work closely with the teacher to coordinate other classroom volunteers. Some teachers prefer to have only one primary room parent, while others prefer to work with multiple room parents. You will be contacted with more details about your particular classes once we know who is interested in helping as a room parent.

Thank you to all the parents joining in as room parents and party helpers this year at Valley Ranch Elementary!

Everyone interested in being a room parent or helper in your kid’s class are welcome to this meeting to get more information.

The Room Parent Meeting for all Room Parents on Friday, September 19th at 2pm in the cafeteria.

New Lunch Timings

CISD has made some adjustments to the lunch timings. Please note the new lunch timings for your classes

Pre K                10:10-10:40 am or 12:05-12:35pm

Kindergarten    10:40-11:10 am
1st                 11:05 —11:35am
2nd                 11:30 —12:00 pm
3rd                 11:55 —12:25 pm
4th                 12:20 – 12:50pm
5th                 12:45 —1:15pm

Please check in through the office before joining you child for lunch. Also, check with your child’s teacher for their specific guidelines for lunch time visitors.

Salad Bar volunteers needed!

Tuesday September 9th is opening day for the VRE the Salad Bar! In an effort to make sure opening day goes smoothly we need YOU! We need two volunteers during each lunch period to help students and manage the salad bar, come early or stay late and enjoy lunch with your child as a bonus.

Kinder 10:40-11:10 am
1st 11:05 —11:35am
2nd 11:30 —12:00 pm
3rd 11:55 —12:25 pm
4th 12:20 – 12:50pm
5th 12:45 —1:15pm



Studentdropoff
New School Drop off and Pickup rules

Students can be dropped off at 7:30 AM. Prek, K & 1st can drop off in the
front loop (Rodeo). 2nd –5th grades can drop off in Café loop (Santa Fe).
The doors are locked until 7:30 AM. Children arriving after 7:40 AM should
be dropped off in the front loop * Parents should drop off at the door only.

* Your compliance is greatly appreciated! *

Dismissal

Parents picking up 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students can wait in the loop on
the Santa Fe side of the building.
Parents picking up Prek, Kinder ,1st & 2nd should pick-up at the front of the
school. 3rd, 4th and 5th students with younger siblings can meet them at
the front of the school when dismissed.

Safety Warning Car Line

Parents please do not walk between cars; use the crosswalk and do not
leave your car unattended to ensure that the car line moves smoothly.

PTO meeting for September is on Sept 9th at 7pm.

All other meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the library.

You do not have to be a board member to attend. You are welcome to come by and join in to see how and what the board handles and discusses.

We still have many open positions on the board. We would welcome new volunteers to come in and help make our school a better place.

School Drop Off and Pick Up Safety Rules

Arrival

School doors will not be open until 7:30 AM. Students can arrive starting at 7:30 AM. The students will be dismissed to their classrooms at 7:40 AM. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 AM.

Children arriving after 7:40 AM should be dropped off in the front .

Dismissal

Dismissal – 3:05 PM

Very Important Safety Rules

Please follow staff/volunteer instructions from those working the car line

Car Line
Parents please do not leave your car unattended to ensure that the car line moves smoothly. Laminated signs will be provided for parents to assist teachers with dismissal.

Parking Lot
Please do not walk through the car line, or call your child to cross the car line to the parking lot. Please cross at the cross walk by the stop signs only. The cross walk further down the car line is there for easy access for those using the handicap spaces. It should be used only by people using the handicap spaces. Also, please do not park in the designated teacher area. Students should walk with their bikes once they are on campus.

Can you be the Salad Bar Coordinator, we need one!

Students enjoy the salad bar in the cafeteria. This year it’s Tuesdays and we only need hands during lunch times of grades K, 1 and 2. The coordinator does not need to be there each week but needs to have a team who will be there.

We can send out the request for volunteers using the newsletter and you will be coordinating the team of volunteers.

calling all Verification Day volunteers

We need you to help make Verification Day a well run event! Verification Day is August 14th and we need you to help us keep the lines moving, welcome new VRE families and share your knowledge and experience. We’ll have two shifts one in the morning (7:30-10am) and late afternoon (3-6pm), we would love your help either one or both shifts.

As you may know we have quite few new students coming to Valley Ranch, we want to welcome them with short lines and smiling faces. We hope you can join us on August 14th! Please let us know by August 11th if you can work one or both shifts.

Reminders from Nurse Kathleen

Nurse Kathleen has a few reminders for you:

1. All medication must be picked up from the clinic by June 3rd. Any medicine not picked up will be discarded.

2. If your child has Food Allergies: Food Allergy Action Plan will be sent home. Please have it completed for the start of the new school year.

3. If your child has Asthma: Asthma Action Plan will be sent home to be completed and returned at the start of the new school year.

4. Any immunizations your child receives over the summer, please provide the updated record at residency verification.

We have collected 75% of the pledges so far giving us $15,000 to be used for technology for our children. This will be used with the CISD matching fund in October to make the money go even further. Typically CISD matches dollar for dollar.

Last Chance to Order School Supplies at a Discount

Pre-order your School Supplies for the next school year at a pre-order price of $48 (if ordered by June 6, 2014) to be sure your child has them on the first day of school.

You can place your order at the VRE PTO Webstore, or Print the Form and send it completed, with payment, to your child’s teacher or the school office, by June 6th.

Price after June 6th is $50.

While some kits are available later, the numbers are limited and we cannot guarantee the date of delivery. Refunds will be available in the event you won’t be attending Valley Ranch Elementary in the fall.

Summer is here, but please don’t stop collecting Box Tops for Education!

Valley Ranch Elementary PTO receives 10 cents for every Box Top we collect and that adds up fast! This school year we have collected over 12,000 Box Tops and the money we make from the collection of Box Tops goes right back to VRE! It is used to purchase cool things like new technology for the school & help fund the programs and events we sponsor throughout the school year.

So, save your Box Tops until school starts again!

Fun Run Information!

Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for making this year’s Apex Fun Run such a huge success! The students had a wonderful time with the Apex team and the Fun Run was a blast. Now it’s time to collect all pledges that are due on Wednesday, May 28th.

With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we need your help collecting all of the pledges as soon as possible. Your student was given a Collections Envelope and Letter to take home after the Fun Run to collect checks from sponsors. Sponsors were also sent an email with a link to pay online. Our goal is to collect 100% of the funds pledged! Please help by contacting all sponsors to collect their checks or confirm that they have paid online. As a reminder, each class that collects all of their pledges will be receiving a special class prize!

You can also pay online by logging in with your student’s code to the My Pledges tab at www.apexfunrun.com. If you need your student’s access code or didn’t receive an Apex email, please email info@apexfunrun.com and they will respond quickly.
